It wasn't hidden, it simply didn't exist.I take it you are referring to OS/2.Nope. Vastly more popular than OS/2
besides that it makes people tired speaking in riddles the only reason i am active in that thread is to notice that people should not make differences between GUI/CLI and so not lower rate CLI apps
* there are users just browse the web, chat and read e-mail * there are users doing a lot of things in a terminal * there are users doing only sometimes things in a terminal it always depends on the goal to achive for a taskwell, and that is why there are tasks you *can * do 1000 times more better in a terminal or in a 3-liner shell script with one or two params and others where you are much faster using the GUI
this world is greyhence everybody start using Linux should *know* there are terminal apps and which ones and make his own decision if they fit the usecase and in doubt be able to use both worlds
what makes me angry is "nobody should need to use a terminal" that's not the point, a new user just needs to know the capabilities don't hide them from these people because they are born too late *show them* all the nice capabilities and don't hide half if they donä't want to use them - fine! but if they don't use them just they don't know about is a damage
