One of the most inportant advance of Linux over Windows is the fact, that there are only a few situations - like kernel updates - which requires a reboot of your system. This features is inpractical of server systems where you want to avoid reboots to minimizize downtimes. I oppsoite it may be beeter to tag the packages where a reboot may be requrire to activate the installed update with a virtual provides. Yum may detect this virtaul provide during the update and can take accorate action in this case.
