I do not remember the outcome of the discussion but there was something
going on in December last year:

The outcome was that a bunch of people were deriding MATE and not
wanting it in Fedora. After some time without anyone willing to review
the first few packages, I abandoned my effort. At this point I do not
have the time or energy to go back to work on it.
