Yes, because its so incredibly hard to manually tag things. Never mind that its exactly what you did with cvs. Its just not explicitly required before submitting a build anymore, as builds are done based on git hash instead of cvs tag. Is it too hard to type 'git tag n-v-r'? Would you like a 'fedpkg tag' command that mimics the old 'make tag'? Shouldn't be more than a few lines of python to implement. Seriously.
