Well, a couple of Fedoras back, X didn't work except with radeonhd, but now radeon appears to support this one as well; I switched to it, and the CPU issue is gone even with KMS. Now fonts (esp small ones) look very smudgy though. But I suppose there are already bug(s) open on this.
