What would such a "non-hardware mount" be? Are you trying to use a partition or directory on your computer as a fake iPod? Why
Not fake. Real iPods like the iPhone or the iPod Touch. They are mounted using Fuse mounts, that is sshfs or ifuse. Fuse mounts are not detected by HAL.
