Against X.org first. Finding out why it's crashing would give insight
into where the root cause is.

FWIW I've had no trouble using xsane in F11.

Different hardware, different sane backends.

Almost certainly. But it's a far cry from "Scanning is broken in
Fedora".

I prefixed it with "for me", i know it works for some people.
