Versioning

Hi,

Could one of the Red Hat developers please draw John Dennis' attention to
this thread? I don't think he frequents this list.

It got as 0.99.10.6-1,FC2,1 in testing. Can this *please* be reverted?
We had a similar discussion on the version of cup lately
(http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-devel-list/2004-May/msg00290.html).
I do appreciate a somewhat standardized way to version packages. That works
much easier with scripts etc.

Are there guidelines on versioning written down somewhere? Wouldn't it
be a good idea to formulate and write them down if they do not yet
exist? What are the procedures at Red Hat for priming new developers?
Any obligatory reading they have to do?
