Unfortunately, libavformat links to libavcodec to use its bitstream reader and utility functions, and because IIUC some codecs that require special handling for demuxing can't be detected without decoding a little of the bitstream. I could probably try to build a stripped-down version of libavcodec that doesn't contain the problematic codecs, but I don't really have time for that (help is welcome).
