since it keeps us focused, in terms of:

* Even if someone can burn a DVD, it's a lot to download; keep in mind
not everyone has fast Internet
* Having higher quality software percentage wise
* Not losing focus into developer tools, scientific analysis, creative
tools, 3D games etc.  The desktop image is a desktop core.
* Encouraging us to reduce technology duplication in that core set

The fact that it can be burned to a physical CD is a bonus.
