I had terrible problems with some daemons inappropriately > listening on 127.0.0.1 and not on the real IP until I fixed the hosts file. It appears this was a know problem, https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=474086, and was resolved by adding the non-FQDN hostname to the end of the 127.0.0.1 line.
