Disk and RAM are practically free, given today's prices.
Even on machines where that is true, the time to load extra stuff from
disk into ram isn't free.
And how much better could it be if all development
had focused on just one?
How much worse would it be if there was no competition?
Microsoft and Apple are enough competition.
