and enable
httpd, postgresql, and squid" by default because I use them...
Yes, how about it?  What's the point of booting quickly - or at all, if
the machine won't provide any services?

Why would I install the desktop spin if I need those?  Fedora has been taking
the lets-start-any-services-that-someone-may-need approach so far.  It doesn't
work.  Spins are a neat way to customize the default install for different
sectors.  The desktop spin should not install an MTA in my opinion.  That's
all I'm saying.

Even desktop users deserve an environment that follows standards. Has everyone forgotten October's long discussion on this very subject?

Note particularly reply #96 stating mail delivery is required by both posix and the LSB.

I don't understand why people who want non-standard configurations can't stop the service startups themselves - and then they'll know why normal programs that expect a standard environment don't work. Also, this doesn't really have anything to do with boot time. The daemon startup can be deferred or put in the background so as not to delay bootup.
