My goal was to have PackageKit restart the machine using kexec instead of the full restart. Here are patches I made for that: http://michich.fedorapeople.org/kexec-fedora/ You most likely do not use PK on a server, but take a look at the helper script ck-system-restart-quick in the ConsoleKit patch.
