There is a lot in the 2.4.22 FC-1 kernel that makes this kind of rolling forward movement hard. In essence 2.4.22 FC-1 was defined by what was in RH9 2.4.x (NPTL etc) and that in turn wasn't defined for the Fedora like goals. The only sane way to really update the FC1 kernel is 2.6.x
