It helps a bit, but does unfortunately not go all the way.

In the screenshot above the 48x48 canvas svg icons used for PDF Mod and
Meld app icons certainly look better than the Pulseaudio prefs and
Scribus icons (48x48 png's). It does give the icons very fat borders though.
The 256x256 png's used for the rest renders best out of the 3 variants.
