Out of curiosity, but how are you determining JavaScript versions? The JavaScript engine code has not changed much since 1.0, so your assertion very much surprises me.
As a separate note, the JavaScript version distinction is largely irrelevant in today's browser world. In fact, its support is being removed completely from Firefox, as no other browser supports it. See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=255895
