Today the PROTECT Initiative, led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), is launching an educational program, “Up and Away and Out of Sight,” to encourage parents to follow a few simple steps to protect children from unintentional medication overdoses. Overdoses can lead to harm, sometimes requiring emergency treatment or hospitalization and are a significant public health problem. Children are especially vulnerable to unintentional overdoses, most of which can be prevented.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is a government partner in the PROTECT Initiative, a collaboration of public health agencies private sector companies, professional organizations, consumer/patient advocates and academic experts.
Twitter Chat: As part of the launch, CDC and the some of the PROTECT partners will also be hosting a live Twitter Chat with national medication safety experts on Wednesday, December 14th at 1-2PM ET. The chat can answer your questions about the "Up and Away and Out of Sight" program and other medicine safety issues.
