For Immediate Release October 11, 2014 For the sixth day in a row, O'Hare handled more flights yesterday than any other airport in the country, with more than 97 percent of the two-month average traffic for a Friday. Midway traffic was above 95 percent of the two-month average. By 1 p.m. CDT today, O'Hare flights were running above 89 percent of the previous six-week average, and Midway flights were above 95 percent. The FAA is expecting thunderstorms in the Chicago area tomorrow and Monday and will be closely monitoring the weather and working with the airlines to manage traffic. FAA technical teams have completed testing on almost all of the critical systems and equipment at the Chicago En Route Center in Aurora, IL and are preparing to transition the facility back to full operation tomorrow night. Technical experts will be on-scene before and after the transition, and also will be stationed at remote equipment locations to ensure a smooth cutover of all critical systems. A full shift of air traffic controllers also will return to the center for the transition. The adjoining en route centers will transfer control of airspace sectors back to Chicago Center after midnight tomorrow. ### |
