I was able to run this on my other ext4 fs, and it came back clean.
That resize2fs occurred under OpenVZ kernel 2.6.32-042stab075.  So if
the problem was with a bug in ext? resizing, it may have been patched
between stab055 and stab075.  (It's still not clear that it was a bug;
it could still be a hardware issue that I haven't seen errors for, or
perhaps an LVM bug that was fixed independent of the OpenVZ kernels.)
