Hi Ted! I just wanted to publicly thank you for your suggestion to try 'mke2fs -S'. After making a backup of the trashed partition with 'dd', and not making any progress using any other programs, I finally got up the nerve to try your suggestion. After it re-wrote the superblocks and group descriptors, I ran 'e2fsck -y' and it complained about a _LOT_ of things. It didn't look good, but I figured I had nothing left to lose. After it was done, I mounted up the filesystem and 'ls' showed nothing but 'lost+found'. Inside that dir, however, were a bunch of files and directories with numbered names, and after a little searching, I was able to find some of the important files that I thought were lost forever! So far, everything I've looked at it is intact! Needless to say, I am overjoyed, and owe you a big THANKS! I very much appreciate you taking the time to reply.
