-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi, I am running a dual Athelon/Tyan MP system. It is a pretty simple minded setup, 512 MB ram + a few ide disks. No raid, no scsi, no disk quotas, no nfs, no samba. Recently I have been able to hang the system (requiring hardware reset, can't ping, console frozen) at will by doing large compile jobs. This has occurred with a stock RedHat 7.3 install with 2.4.18-5 smp kernel and with Gentoo 1.2 installed, 2.4.19-gentoo kernel (I believe it is an ac kernel) and with 2.4.19-pre2 kernel. The hangs do not seem to happen if I am not running smp kernels, or when the disk is not mounted as ext3 (yes, I assume the problem is just hiding in this case!) I have sometimes seen it hang during bootup. Any help appreciated. murray smigel - -- use http://pgp.mit.edu/ with id 0x4176EECA to find my public key or search on murray@smigel.org - -----BEGIN GEEK CODE BLOCK----- Version: 3.1 GE/S/CS d-- s:+ a++ C++(++++) UL*++ P-- L++ E W+(+++) N o-- K- w O- M- V-- PS++ PE- Y+ PGP++ t+ 5- X- R tv-- b++++ DI++ D- G e++++ y++ - ------END GEEK CODE BLOCK------ -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE9SZ9fx8lQe0F27soRAi5RAKCCybdBOv6ww0EAvTFooPG/trnr5wCePPuS 8bsT405bAXUBO2XGbL6eqtY= =lzLn -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
