Hi all,
just for the sake of completeness:
As you already suspected the updated mesa libraries were not actually
used on my system by mplayer before. I now managed to fix this and
correctly install the updated mesa so that it takes precedence.
Everything seems to work fine now (at least judging from some quick
testing).
