Ok, the missing-texture thing in my last comment was no bug, i only forgot to apply the file-texture correctly in blender. So after some more testing, hw_gl_select2 works great without any regressions. Speedy selection of dense meshes, wire and shaded views ok, no selection problems of other items like lights or cameras. Verry nice work! I vote for... upstream! :)
