I didn't run into that. I used

make ARCH=arm64
CROSS_COMPILE=/opt/cross/gcc-5.5.0-nolibc/aarch64-linux/bin/aarch64-linux-
drivers/gpu/drm/msm/msm_mdss.o

I did have to disable CONFIG_GCC_PLUGINS, else it couldn't find
<gmp.h>.
