I can trigger this reliably when I let my computer boot up and don't log into
Gnome. After a minute the screen goes dark and stays that way.
sometimes I can remotely log into "Cockpit" and reboot the machine, but most of
the time even though the system is "pingable" I have to use a hard reset to get
it working again.

When I disable the screen saver and use S3 instead, the system is stable.
