Thanks Andrew for you comment! At least now I know that I'm not alone ;-) The funny thing is that one of the users in the Archlinux forum thread (https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1860353#p1860353) mentions that for him it is working with Gnome 3 under Wayland. He also has a Sapphire Pulse RX 5700 XT. Maybe it's a combination of chipset + graphics card? I have a Asus ROG STRIX X570-E GAMING board so it has a X570 chipset.
