bump up the multipathd verbosity at compilation time, be sure to run it while testing, look the daemon.log for multipath callouts on events.
Was not multipath tools only the last step in order to automate administration tasks over a dynamic storage area network? I tought the only device mapper was needed to test simple multipath failover capabilities.
