And also setting it by default would be a severe imposition on 
all dm mpath users: your system may hang unless you implement
(non-trivial) code to handle this scenario correctly.
[This is why I'm still in two minds about including it as a
feature flag in the table, rather than requiring a separate
deliberate action to activate it.]
