Good point, though; if I'm not messing up the powers of ten involved
(which has happened before), ~8M syscalls in ~30 seconds means on the
order of four microseconds per syscall all the way from userspace and
back. Put that way, it's not quite as horrible as needing half a
minute to read an 8 MB file.
