"--batch-mode" might help and so might the info in the two sections "NOTES ON PASSPHRASE PROCESSING FOR PLAIN MODE" and "NOTES ON PASSPHRASE PROCESSING FOR LUKS". cryptsetup will detect whether it is connected to a terminal or fed via stdin.
