Quick question about cryptsetup --align-payload

What's the unit used for payload alignment?

The manpage says it's sectors (512 bytes), but when I align to 1MB
using the number 2048 luksDump shows 4096 ... what?

My dm-crypted system disk (courtesy of debian-installer) shows an
alignment of 2056, which isn't even a power-of-two.

Add to that the fact that alignment doesn't do anything
performance-wise except decrease it in really pathological cases ...
what gives?

Did I misunderstand the --align-payload option entirely?

Thanks,

C.
