Seems ok.

This command shouldn't produce these big bio requests (fixed by previous patch),
this looks like some other problem is related.

Does this work for some smaller volume / with different RAID set ?

What is in syslog ? (aborted scsi command messages ?)
Could you try if 2.6.24-rc helps ?
(in 2.6.24 is new version of Areca driver and some DM changes).
