there might be some difference, but I don't see it in the real life. I
have everything encrypted except system partition, and even my LVM is
encrypted. that is a double job for a cpu because of LVM, but it is
not much faster with a dual core cpu.

I only see that a cpu is much less under load with a dual core, but it
is not faster. I did not try to measure it, and it is probably not
objective :).

I had athlon 2600 XP before and I got a athlon am2 3800 X2 after that.
athlon cpu is much slower comparing to intel dual core, but I think
that hard disk is a bottleneck.
