benefit from two or more CPU cores?

I was planning on buying a new CPU for my file server. Is it any benefit
in having many cores by just looking at the disk encryption part?

I mean:

would dd if=/dev/mapper/encrypted of=/dev/null run almost twice the
speed on a CPU with similar core speed?

would running two concurrent dd if=/dev/mapper/encrypted of=/dev/null
run almost twice the speed as on a single core machine with similar core
speed?

Of course I'm having the aes-cbc-essiv:sha256 cipher in mind.

Thanks for your help!
