Hi,
perhaps my last email (LUKS Master Key Backup) was unclear to some of
you, so I try it again.
I would like to know what I can do protect my encrypted data from bad
harddisk sectors. Therefore I have two questions:
Question 1:
What happens in case one sector of my hard disk dies? Does that mean
this sector and the next sector is gone but I can decrypt the rest of
the data ? In my case I use CBC.
Question 2:
Does it make sense to backup the first sector of the encrypted device
where the luks header and master key is stored in case this sector dies
? If so what is the command -> dd ...
Answers are really appreciated.
Marcel
