Sorry man, english is not my native language so maybe I just did not
understand you clearly. Or maybe I wrote something wrong. But I just
cannot see any contradictions (except that I first wanted to convert
partiton and after talk just to correctly configure cryptsetup-luks).

I have WORKING old-style cryptsetup with encrypted patition. I really
don't understand why you asked about the key. First you asked how
initial setup looked like. I posted:

KEY=`tr -cd [:graph:] < /dev/urandom | head -c 79`
echo $KEY | cryptsetup -h sha256 create wra /dev/sda6

THIS IS initial setup. You really didn't ask about key storage. I saved
the key to file AFTER initial setup. Where is "first you say this, then
you say that"?

P.S.: I hope we both understand "initial setup" as the procedure what is
done only "once for life" - at the very begining.
