I pointed out previously that the Chromebook guys had some similar issues with dtb selection when the OEM varies parts but there does not seem to be any of them on CC here. There's definitely a generic problem to be solved here but I don't see an effort made to involve the other people known to have the same problems and this is all highly vendor specific.
