This is the parent node. You don't need it.

No, sorry. /firmware is the container of firmware nodes. So 
something like this:

firmware {
	rpi-firmware {
		compatible = "raspberrypi,bcm2835-firmware";
		mboxes = <&mailbox>;
		gpio {
		 compatible = "raspberrypi,firmware-gpio";

		};
	};
};
