Going a bit further, it should be and *independent* interrupt controller Meson SoC, like gxbb and gxl, have 2 independent gpio controllers, with there own register space and which can work on their own. It is the same for the gpio-irq device, it is an independent device, with its own register space. It can work even if the gpio device is not driven. The gpio- irq device should not depend on the gpio controller. The driver should reflect that, and IMO it should be: - an independent driver inside driver/irqchip, working even if the gpio device is not probed - it should not use gpio stuff (like meson_get_bank). If gpio related translation should be done to get the irq line number from the gpio number, it should be done by the gpio driver. - First, We should be able to request irq directly from this device (eg. through DT).
