Different teams. There's the "ceph project" and the "centos storage sig". Of 
course, individuals may be contributing to both efforts.

Because they're different repositories with different build histories you pretty 
much need to rely on the package's changelog if you want to know what those 
numbers indicate.

That's up to you. If you want to use ceph daemons installed from packages you 
can choose one of either source. If you want to use orchestration with cephadm 
you'll default to the container images build by the ceph project. However, you 
are not forced to use those images either.


If you are new to Ceph I suggest trying cephadm with the default container 
images first.
