Re: How to contribute to ceph

Hi Lasith

I want to highlight another opportunity available to contribute to Ceph and earn in return.

Ceph is available to Linux and FreeBSD. But the Ceph on FreeBSD is too old.

FreeBSD has recently raised funds, USD 1.27M: https://freebsdfoundation.org/

FreeBSD Foundation is calling for proposals: https://freebsdfoundation.org/blog/freebsd-foundation-2022-call-for-proposals/

You or anyone (ideally a small competent team) may submit a proposal to offer the latest Ceph on FreeBSD.

Requirement is two fold: (1) Offer latest Ceph port, (2) Development of a FreeBSD kernel client module similar to Linux kernel client.

Therefore, there is room for two project proposals.

Please see my comment to learn more details:

Best regards
Sagara

Hi Dasith,

We are currently in the process of setting up project ideas and
mentors for GSoC 2022. To get started in contributing, I'd recommend
checking the Google Summer of Code website [1] for Ceph projects
around the end of February since most projects will be up by then.

In the meantime, if you would still like to make a contribution, feel
free to pick an issue from the list linked below [2]. Let me know if
you have any further questions!
