I expect to do something similar for the 2022 midterm elections, but I do not yet have concrete plans beyond that, except for a desire to work on something with high social impact. -- Am I leaving Ceph for good? Initially, I expect to step back from a leadership role but continue to contribute as a developer--at least for the short term. How much I contribute will depend on other time commitments, which are not easy to predict. My best guess is that I will continue to do some work on the Quincy release but play a minimal role in the R release. -- What will Ceph project leadership look like going forward? The Ceph Leadership Team[1] has known about this coming transition for a couple of weeks now and has been discussing models for more formal project governance. We’ve been looking at other projects that have made similar transitions (e.g., Python) for ideas and inspiration. Expect to see messages to the email list(s) as we get closer to specific proposals. -- What does this mean for Red Hat's involvement in Ceph? My decision to leave Red Hat is unlikely to have any impact whatsoever on Red Hat's ongoing use of Ceph or its commitment to the Ceph project and community. Stay tuned for more information as the discussion around project governance continues. It has been a great honor to see a vibrant user and developer community form around Ceph, and to see so many people devote their time, energy, and careers to a project that once seemed like such a long shot.
