Thanks for your help. By increasing the delay I now successfully boot using
the 2.6 kernel. Everything works. I did notice that the
> sda: unknown partition table
is still around; should I worry? Or is everything fine as long as the drive
is successfully mounted after the delay?
One more check, just to be sure: Can you verify that you have
CONFIG_MSDOS_PARTITION=y in your kernel configuration?
Yep, that is set:
[root@computer linux-2.6.14]$ grep MSDOS_PARTITION .config
CONFIG_MSDOS_PARTITION=y
