David's problem was resolved. He told me so in private reply. The problem
was caused by missing 'initrd' directory on his encrypted root partition.

David ran the build-initrd.sh script on knoppix, but didn't configure
DESTINATIONROOT= to point to his encrypted root directory. So the
build-initrd.sh script checked and/or created a 'initrd' directory on
ram-disk based knoppix root directory instead of his encrypted root
directory.
