If you did not specify a hash under the old util-linux-2.11* patches then the default was RIPEMD160, not SHA256. Try using the rmd160 hash, or rmd160compat if that fails. For the record neither hashalot nor cryptoloop use the CryptoAPI hash algorithms. So far only IPsec does (AFAIK).
