take a look at
	/usr/src/linux/Documentation/initrd.txt

also some distributions (at least SuSE) uses an initrd by
default (for loading scsi-modules afair), so it should be trivial
to add the crypto-modules and modified losetup/mount there.

if anyone is going to try this i would be glad to help in
exchange for half a page of writeup/howto or even a simple
shell-history snippet about this.
