PowerTOP screenshot BEFORE suspend/resume at desktop idle:

    PowerTOP version 1.10 (C) 2007 Intel Corporation

Cn Avg residency P-states (frequencies)
C0 (cpu running) ( 3.8%) 2.11 Ghz 3.2%
C0 0.0ms ( 0.0%) 2.10 Ghz 0.1%
C1 0.0ms ( 0.0%) 1200 Mhz 0.2%
C2 0.0ms ( 0.0%) 800 Mhz 96.5%
C3 5.3ms (96.2%)

Wakeups-from-idle per second : 183.8 interval: 10.0s
no ACPI power usage estimate available

Top causes for wakeups:
  22.7% ( 40.7) firefox : futex_wait (hrtimer_wakeup)
  17.1% ( 30.7) <kernel IPI> : Rescheduling interrupts
  14.8% ( 26.6) <interrupt> : acpi
   7.7% ( 13.8) <interrupt> : extra timer interrupt
   6.7% ( 12.0) work_on_cpu/0 : mod_timer (rh_timer_func)
   6.5% ( 11.7) <interrupt> : uhci_hcd:usb3, mmc0, mmc1, iwlagn,
i915@pci:
0000:00:02.0
Suggestion: Disable 'hal' from polling your cdrom with:
hal-disable-polling --device /dev/scd0 'hal' is the component that auto-opens a
window if you plug in a CD but disables SATA power saving from kicking in.
 Q - Quit R - Refresh K - kill hald-addon-storage

... and AFTER suspend/resume, under the same conditions:

Wakeups-from-idle per second : 34595.0 interval: 10.0s
no ACPI power usage estimate available

Top causes for wakeups:
  16.9% ( 61.2) USB device 6-1 : USB Optical Mouse (Logitech)
  16.8% ( 61.1) <interrupt> : uhci_hcd:usb6, firewire_ohci, eth0
  15.9% ( 57.7) <kernel IPI> : Rescheduling interrupts
  10.4% ( 37.8) <interrupt> : acpi
   8.9% ( 32.2) firefox : futex_wait (hrtimer_wakeup)
   5.9% ( 21.5) <interrupt> : extra timer interrupt

Suggestion: Enable USB autosuspend by pressing the U key or adding
usbcore.autosuspend=1 to the kernel command line in the grub config

 Q - Quit R - Refresh U - Enable USB suspend
