That's incorrect; dlm_controld runs fine, if not better, by fencing
directly rather than indirectly through pacemaker/stonith.

It's worth considering if you simply use clvm or gfs2 (without other ha
services to managed).

Right, if no fencing has been configured, the default is to try to get
fencing via pacemaker/stonith (via the dlm_stonith agent).
