Do you have any data about the COW costs ?
Perhaps some graphs, metrics or benchmarks ?

We are currently using rbd's snapshots for backup (using [1],
#auto-advertisement) on some Luminous clusters, and have not found any
impact, but perhaps we just "have too many hardware ressources / not
enough images" for this to be perceptible
